Can I hang long coats and dresses on it?
Yes, and that is what the movable rods are for. Take the lower rod out and the bay becomes a full height drop, which the 79 inch frame has room for. Leave both rods in and you get two shorter hanging zones instead. The shelves reposition on the same poles, so a long drop on one side and stacked shelves on the other is a normal setup.
