Description
Three of the five shades point down at the island. Two point up at the ceiling. That is what stops the light being a row of bulbs in your face.
The glass is graded rather than uniform: each shade runs frosted at the socket end and fades to clear at the open rim, so the frosted band covers the bulb from a seated eye while the clear rim lets the light fall straight down onto the counter. Two shades are turned upward, throwing fill onto the ceiling, on a 40.55 inch brushed brass bar.
Two honest notes. This is a hardwired ceiling fixture, so it wires into your ceiling box rather than plugging in, and we recommend the installation is carried out by a qualified, licensed electrician. And bulbs are not included: it takes five E12 candelabra bulbs. Indoor use only. Before it ships, your order is parts-verified: every shade, arm, rod and fixing counted against the list.

The three downward shades light the counter and the two upward ones throw fill onto the ceiling, which comes back as soft general light. It means one fixture handles both the island and the room around it.
Does it need an electrician?
We recommend one. It is a hardwired fixture wired into your ceiling box rather than plugged into a wall, so a qualified, licensed electrician is the right person to fit it. The rods and all mounting hardware ship in the box.
